Climb to Give Education

Technology is an essential part of our lives today and learning STEM principles is crucial for children’s future. However, underprivileged children in rural Tanzania often lack access to quality education and technology, with almost 70% of children aged 14–17 years not enrolled in secondary education. Upendo Kwanza Inc has partnered with Silabu Inc to launch Kilimanjaro Climbing Event to support education. This event will support our education initiatives with the following objectives.

Improve Academic Performance

Silabu Inc. will provide 16 hours of high-quality tutoring in science subjects like mathematics, biology, physics, and chemistry per month to one student. The tutoring will be based on a well-structured curriculum designed to have a significant positive impact on the student's academic performance.

Bridge the Digital Divide

By providing students in rural Tanzania with access to technology and internet connectivity, climbers can help to bridge the education gap between underprivileged children and their more privileged peers. This, in turn, provides them with the opportunity to pursue careers in STEM fields.

Why this tour is a valuable experience?

Imagine standing at the summit of the highest mountain in Africa, knowing that your climb has made a difference in the lives of underprivileged children in Tanzania. This is the opportunity we’re offering you – a chance to push yourself to the limit, while also making a real and lasting impact.

We offer three packages to ensure everyone gets a chance to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Here is the breakdown of the impact of each package:
For every student who takes part in the Kilimanjaro Climbing event, $500 will be allocated to support this program. This funding will have an impact on five students by providing them with 16 hours of high-impact tutoring (at $60 per student), school uniforms (at $25 per student), and a stationary package which includes books and pens (at $15 per student) for each student.
For every adult who takes part in the Kilimanjaro Climbing event, $700 will be allocated to support this program. This funding will have an impact on five students by providing them with 16 hours of high-impact tutoring (at $60 per student), school uniforms (at $25 per student), a stationary package which includes books and pens (at $15 per student) for each student, and 2 solar powered computer ($100 each).
For every single person sent by a corporate to take part in the Kilimanjaro Climbing event, $2,500 will be allocated to support this program. This funding will have an impact on 20 students by providing them with 16 hours of high-impact tutoring (at $60 per student), school uniforms (at $25 per student), a stationary package which includes books and pens (at $15 per student) for each student, and 5 solar powered computer ($100 each).

8-Day Kilimanjaro Climbing Itinerary

We have partnered with Kili Africa Tours, the local company that offers world-class service to tourists visiting our beloved country Tanzania from every corner of the world. Here are the details of the awaiting 8-days of adventure with Kili Africa Tours starting this October 22nd through 29th.

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), a Kili Africa Tours team member will be waiting to greet you. We will transfer you to your hotel accommodation for your first night, where you will meet your  guide that you will be with for the remainder of your tour. Once you are settled in your hotel, you will receive a briefing on our tour. You can now relax at your hotel. Your tour and charity works starts tomorrow! As always, if you need anything or would like to head out into town, your guide will be there to assist you 24/7. Welcome to Tanzania!

In this day, after breakfast  from your hotel in Moshi, you will drive to Materuni village few kilometers from Moshi town. You will test the best Kilimanjaro coffee and also learn how to make coffee in local style.

You will hike Materuni and enjoy waterfalls in Materuni and get back to your hotel in Moshi.

After breakfast, you will be collected from your hotel in Moshi and taken to the Marangu gate. Once the necessary paper work has been completed, your trek can begin and you will soon be hiking through the dense rainforest. Alongside the impressive vegetation, you will have the chance to catch a glimpse of some primates as you head to the Mandara Hut. After a well-earned rest, your guide can take you to the Maundi Crater where you can enjoy the wonderful views.

The day begins with an early breakfast. Shortly after you have left Mandara Hut, you will reach the timberline and then enter the heath and moor zone. Approximately 4 – 6 hours later, the Horombo Hut will come into sight, standing at an altitude of 3700m. From the hut, you will have fantastic views overlooking Mawenzi, Kibo and the wide plain of the Masai steppe.

Today serves as an acclimatization day. This should not be underestimated and greatly improves your chance of success in reaching the summit. After a relaxing breakfast, a 4 hour trek follows to the Zebra Rocks (4020m). The distinctive black and white stripes give the rock formation its name. On your return to Horombo Hut, a warm lunch will be waiting for you. You can relax in the afternoon and regain your strength for the hike the following day.

Today’s stage is long and tough. The well-built trail passes the “Last Water point” which is followed by the so-called “saddle”. This nearly vegetation less plateau joins the main summit Kibo with Mawenzi. Today’s destination is the Kibo Hut that is usually reached in about 5 – 6 hours. Here, you will enjoy an early evening meal followed by an early night, as the night will be short.

Today is “The Big Day” – the summit stage. You will begin your final ascent around midnight which will be long and strenuous. Passing the Hans Meyer Cave at 5220m, the climb slowly but surely goes upwards. At sunrise, you will reach Gillman’s Point (5681m) – the crater rim of Kilimanjaro – where the sun will slowly start to warm up the land. You will have soon forgotten the cold of the night and after a further hike of 1 – 2 hours, you will reach Uhuru Peak at 5895m. On your return to Kibo Hut, a warm meal awaits you followed by a 1 – 2 hour break before proceeding back down to Horombo Hut.

The last stage passes through the heath and moor zone to the Mandara Hut (2700m) where a warm lunch is waiting for you. Soon, you will once again pass the tropical rainforest and after a total time of 6 hours trekking, you will be back at the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (1860m). After saying goodbye to your mountain guides, a short transfer follows to take you back to your hotel in Moshi. Once there, you can take a warm and relaxing shower and celebrate your success in reaching the summit of the Kilimanjaro.
